Pupil Premium Funding

About Pupil Premium and Free School Meals

The Pupil Premium is a Government initiative that provides additional funding to support students identified as disadvantaged. Research shows that these students may face greater challenges in achieving their full potential, and the funding is designed to help close this gap.

Who Qualifies for Pupil Premium Funding

Schools receive Pupil Premium funding for students who meet any of the following criteria:

  • Currently eligible for Free School Meals (FSM)
  • Have been eligible for FSM at any point in the past six years
  • Children from families serving in the Armed Forces
  • Children in Care
  • Children who are adopted and were previously in care

Schools have the flexibility to decide how best to use this funding, based on their understanding of students’ needs and the strategies most likely to improve outcomes.

Pupil Premium at Penryn College

We recognise that students eligible for the Pupil Premium may face a range of barriers to learning. Our approach is grounded in research‑based best practice to ensure every student can access the curriculum and succeed.

Our ambition is for all students at Penryn College to thrive, regardless of their academic, social, or economic background. We set high expectations, prioritise high‑quality teaching, and provide strong pastoral support to help students achieve more than they believed possible.

Every student is valued as an individual, and the Pupil Premium Grant is used carefully and strategically to ensure the right support is in place.

Funding Allocation

For the 2025–2026 financial year, Penryn College received £267,990 in Pupil Premium funding.

The Department for Education allows us to allocate this funding according to our students’ needs, and we remain fully accountable for how it is used.
