Welcome to our Year 6 Transition Information where parents and carers of our future Year 7 pupils can find key information ahead of their move to Penryn College in September.

Year 6 Transition Information

In Key Stage 3, all students will study one language for three years and we hope they will then choose to continue with that language at GCSE.  The majority of students will study French at Penryn College, however we are able to offer Spanish to a limited number of students. If for any reason, you have a strong preference for your child to study Spanish please indicate the reasons why on this digital form:Map of our school

Pupil Premium and Free School Meals

Pupil Premium was introduced by the government in April 2011. It is additional funding allocated to schools to support Pupil Premium-eligible students.

Pupil Premium-eligible students are those who receive free school meals; those who have been in receipt of free school meals in the last six years; looked after children; service children; and adopted children. The aim of Pupil Premium is to close the historic attainment and progress gaps between the aforementioned groups of children and all others.

For further information and to view our Pupil Premium policies please click here.

ClassCharts

We use ClassCharts to send out Parent/Carer alerts (e.g. early closure in the event of bad weather) and important letters.

We also use it to manage seating plans, record achievements or incidents of good and bad behaviour whilst in school.  ClassCharts uses data recorded to create optimised seating plans in seconds. We’re able to instantly track a specific student’s interactions with other's within the classroom and create seating plans based on the historical effect on each other’s behaviours, development and progress.

You can read more about ClassCharts here.

iPad and Biometric Information

Technology is continually evolving, and here at Penryn College we have invested significantly over the years, ensuring all students have access to the best technology available to support their learning and daily school life.

In order for your child to receive their iPad you’ll need to read our Mobile Device Acceptable Use Policy and complete this form.

We offer thumbprint scanning to complement our cashless payment system in the canteen. This ensures everyone is able to access the canteen quickly and efficiently:

  • Less time queuing for food in the canteen
  • Reduced cost of printing cards
  • Reduced risk of losing cards

ParentPay and the systems we use to administer payments remains unchanged. We would like to reassure our parents and students that this is not mandatory and there is an opportunity to opt out of the new system. If you or your young person wishes to opt out of using thumbprint recognition, we will continue to operate the existing card system for them.

In order to comply with the provisions of the Protection of Freedoms Act 2012, we need written permission from a parent / carer in order for students to use the biometric systems.

You can read our biometrics FAQ here and opt in to utilising biometrics here.

Mobile Phones

At Penryn College, we operate a gate-to-gate ban on mobile phones.

You can read further information on this here.
