A Message from the Trustees
Trustees want Penryn College to be a rich and vibrant place of learning. We expect pupils to attend school regularly, behave well and want to succeed so they leave school having mastered learning. We want parents and pupils to understand clearly what is being taught, when it is taught and how well it is being learnt. We set ourselves and our pupils stretching targets which are achieved through dedication, hard work and enthusiasm. We are ambitious for our pupils and believe their outcomes are improved through superb leadership, expert and passionate teaching and dedicated support.
We deliver an annual Improvement Plan to enrich the opportunities available for pupils and to drive forward standards.
This academic year we provided more lessons to English, Maths and Science and encouraged more pupils to access the English Baccalaureate (English, Maths, Science, Geography or History and French or Spanish GCSEs). The school day is also slightly longer. This means that pupils have time in the school day to complete independent work to a high standard. It also means that every pupil has the chance to study a Creative Arts or Technology subject to GCSE level.
At Penryn College, pupils develop a thirst for knowledge and the ambition to succeed.
PENRYN COLLEGE VISION - “ACHIEVING THROUGH CHALLENGE”
We want the children of Penryn College to be the best they can be and do the very best they can, whoever they are, wherever they are from, whatever their starting point and wherever they are headed. We want them to be able to meet the challenges of the future. We want them to be flexible, to solve problems, to be resilient and to think for themselves.
Most of all, we want them to achieve their dreams.
We all learn best when we are safe, when we are happy and when we believe in ourselves. Children learn how to be safe in all situations, including on line, stay safe, and keep others safe. We all grow when we are challenged and when our achievements and efforts are recognised, nurtured and celebrated.
At Penryn College we believe everybody has a talent. We work with you and your child to find it and nurture it.
“Achievement through Challenge” is a tangible part of the life and work of Penryn College. Children have inspiring learning opportunities because teachers open new worlds. The range of rich opportunities in a wide and exciting curriculum, using Cornwall’s natural environment to the full, gives students a thirst to know more, understand more and do more.
Building upon their achievements at primary school, students develop purposeful learning habits, including being competent in reading, writing and numbers. They are able to talk openly and confidently about themselves, their progress, their aspirations and their opinions. They learn to understand, value and uphold people’s right to be treated equally.
They leave us with a broad range of qualifications which give them knowledge and skills they need for their future, whatever that future might be. Students know how to be happy and how to be healthy. They are active and alert. They are team players and self-starters. They are competent and confident young adults who know anything is possible with hard work and imagination. They care as much about others as about themselves.
Students leave Penryn College as self-assured, well rounded young citizens, understanding the responsibilities, challenges and opportunities of life in modern Britain and the wider world. They value people for who they are and know that each one of us has a responsibility to give something back. They know where they are headed and how to achieve their dreams.
